Award categories
Awards will be judged across all eligible presentations. In 2009 there will be:
- Oral Presentation Prizes (3x $2000 each)
- Cancer Institute oral prize
- Genesearch oral prize
- St Vincents Symposium oral prize
- Miltenyi Biotec Student Poster Prizes (4x $500)
- Clinical Poster Prize ($500) new
The major awards must be used to fund travel/accommodation/conference costs at a national/international meeting. Funds will be supplied on presentation of receipts and must be used within one year of award. Failure to use the award in this time will result in loss of the award entitlements. These awards are subject to change depending on the availability of funding.
Eligibility for awards
- The abstract describing the work conforms to specified standards.
- The work was conducted principally while the award candidate was employed on St. Vincent’s Campus.
- The award candidate is the presenting author and has made significant technical and intellectual contributions to the work.
- The work is current and may not have been presented previously at the St. Vincents Campus Research Symposium.
- Award candidates must be researchers or health care workers.
- Winners of either the primary or secondary award(s) are ineligible for award consideration the following year.
- The Organising Committee reserves the right to determine award candidature in circumstances where eligibility may be in doubt. The decision of the Organising Committee will be final.
- No member of the Organising Committee will be eligible for an award.
- Only students are eligible for poster awards
- Only abstracts submitted in the clinical category are eligible for the Clinical Poster Prize.
Judging
The judging panel will be comprised of the four invited speakers. Criteria for judging will include consideration of experimental design and execution, the originality of the work, the quality of the presentation, and the level of understanding of the work and its significance by the award candidate. Those candidates eligible for the awards will be asked to either present their work orally or be present at their posters during the poster session. Short listed candidates may be interviewed by the judges about their work during that time or after their oral presentation.
