Mr Wills brings a wealth of experience in the health and medical research
sector serving as both the Chairman of The Garvan Institute of Medical
Research and Director of The Garvan Research Foundation. Mr Wills is a registered architect and is a graduate of the Harvard Business School Senior Executive Program. He is an Associate of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects, a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management and a Fellow of the company Directors' association. In addition to his work with the Garvan Institute, Mr Wills' community activities have included a term as Local Government Alderman on Mosman Municipal Council, and as Commissioner and Deputy Chairman of the Tourism Commission of NSW. He is currently Member of the Australian Opera National Council, Director of Musica Viva Australia and Deputy chairman of The Committee for Sydney. In June 1996, Mr Wills was appointed as a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia for service to the community. Peter chaired the committee, formed by the Minister for Health and Aged Care, Dr Michael Wooldridge, which took on the task of assessing Australia's health and medical research. The Wills report was released in 1999 and was instrumental in bringing medical research to the attention of the media and increasing funding for Australian science. The PWBC was established in recognition of the enormous contribution made by Peter Wills in his role as Chairman of the Garvan Institute. |
